Making spirits bright: New book releases

Now that's a tree skirt!

Now that’s a tree skirt!

I hope you have a great holiday filled with lots and lots of books. If Santa doesn’t bring you anything to read this Christmas, then I also hope you say to hell with it, and buy yourself some. The books below are a good place to start; they all come out on December 29, just in time to fight the inevitable “I have to put away all the crap I just dug out of my garage” post-holiday letdown.

Anything for You, Kristan Higgins: This novel is part of her Blue Heron series, which is charming and funny. If you haven’t read Kristan’s earlier works, give those a try, too. I love the way she makes you care about her cast of characters as they live through their sometimes painful, sometimes poignant, and often hysterical moments.

Dukes Prefer Blondes, Loretta Chase: I love Loretta Chase, and I would probably read her grocery list if she’d let me. This book is number four in her Dressmakers series, but as with most series, you can probably jump in anywhere and be fine.

The Rogue Not Taken, Sarah MacLean: This is the first in a new series for Sarah, whom I had the pleasure of talking to at a writer’s conference. She said this series was inspired by modern-day scandals (Kardashians, affairs with the nanny, etc.), which she is making relevant to 1800s England. Sarah did a lot of research for this book and discovered that scandal sheets of that time were just as bad as today’s tabloids. This promises to be a great historical romance.

Happy reading!
